Slurry is a general word for a variety of waste types. Sludge, manure, drilling waste, bentonite waste can all fall under this term. Hydro Cleansing can collect and dispose of all of it, taking it to our wet waste treatment centre in Croydon.
How much is slurry worth? Farm slurry is worth more than milk these days. Sustainable energy is becoming more and more profitable and farmers are making the most of it. Drilling slurry can’t yet contribute to the energy cycle but it can be compressed to recycle the water used in creating it.
Drilling slurry is created from water used during the drilling process mixing with the waste from the material being drilled through. Drilling slurry varies in density. It can be anything from a dense sludge to a thin cream. That depends on the kind of surface they are drilling through. For instance, a lot of the super sewer’s slurry came out like cream due to the amount of fluid necessary to keep the boring machine working and the chalk rock that they were boring thorough.
It is vital to remove drilling slurry as quickly as possible as it can set solid whilst still appearing movable on the surface. The sediment in the drilling slurry can separate and cause the sediment at the bottom to solidify. The water rises to the top, giving the impression that the slurry is still liquid. Act now! Slurry can include chemicals and require testing before disposal. Hydro Cleansing offer this service as part of our full drilling waste disposal and treatment service.
Our tankers visit a construction site, empty the IBCs and tanks using vacuum suction. The tanks are jetted and vacuumed clean and the drilling slurry is removed for disposal and treatment.
The drilling waste is treated at our Croydon depot. The water is removed and the sediment compressed into a pulp or ‘cake.’
Not for eating, this cake is then sent to landfill and the recycled water is reused to keep our beautiful trucks clean!
